Speech Order

This chart will break a debate round down for you. “CX” means cross-examination, but we’ll get to that later.

Remember: 1/2 mean first or second, A/N mean affirmative or negative, and C/R mean constructive or rebuttal.

So who gives what speech? Well, you’ll receive a speaker position from your coach. You’ll either be a 2A/1N, which means you speak second for the affirmative and first for the negative, or a 2N/1A, which means you speak second for the negative and first for the affirmative. If your job is to speak second on a given side, that means you should be an expert on that part of the debate, and you should be able to answer any question about it.
